Lichfield Squash Club: New League Rule

Hi all

Further to the launch of the latest leagues on Tuesday, I would like to bring to your attention a new rule that has been introduced.

This has resulted from a few concerns expressed about the squash ranking system called Squash Levels.

For those who are unaware of Squash Levels, it's an internationally recognised system of ranking squash players of any level, from club level all the way to the elite players of the PSA World Tour, using match results to provide Squash Levels ranking points.

It is used by many tournaments and teams leagues as a method to grade and rank players. It is also a nice way for players to track their personal progress, set personal goals and compare their levels with playing partners and opponents. You can take a look at it via their website at www.squashlevels.com.

So why does this affect our Club Leagues? The leagues module on MyCourts offers the ability to share match results with Squash Levels by checking a box when entering a score. The box needs to be actively checked in order for a result to be shared, the default position is an unchecked box.

Some players have expressed concern that a result has been shared on Squash Levels but they were unaware this was going to happen and this was not discussed with them at any stage.

After deliberation, it is felt fairer that both players should discuss and agree whether a result is to be shared on Squash Levels prior to any match, so they are fully aware what the match consequences will be and they can approach the match accordingly.

For this reason, we've updated our League Rules with the following text on our website and MyCourts:

"The leagues module on MyCourts offers the possibility of scores being shared with the squash ranking system called Squash Levels by checking the relevant box. This facility should only be used if it has been agreed by both players in advance of the match taking place and in no other circumstances."

This will only affect players that already have a profile and ranking on Squash Levels as both players need to be present there for the result to feed through.

I trust you understand the reasoning behind this and thanks for your cooperation.

Cheers
James Roberts
