Lichfield Squash Club News - May 2023

It has been yet another action-packed month in the Club, with lots of exciting news to report on in this month's newsletter, so please read on.

Leagues update

It has been really pleasing to see so many league matches played since the switch over to MyCourts, especially a full house of matches played across the top 3 divisions.

Congratulations to Gary Snowden for once again winning the Premier Division, albeit by a solitary point, and well done Adam Davies pushing him all the way. Perhaps the next league may see Gary eventually toppled as Champion?

The leagues are currently being refreshed and there may be a slight change in set up as well, so look out for the new tables on MyCourts.

Club Celebration Event

Last Wednesday, we held an excellent social event to celebrate the achievements of Lichfield Squash Club, as well as the exploits of our Staffordshire Squash Team in the Winter Leagues. This involved an enjoyable squash mix-in session, followed by an excellent curry at the Bengal Restaurant, which gave a chance to players of various levels to have a hit and get to know each other better.

Team Awards

At the recent Club Celebration event, apart from celebrating the significant achievements of the club over recent times, we also took the opportunity of holding our Annual Team Awards. Our Staffordshire Squash Team finished a creditable 2nd place this year, pushing Champions Burton Manor all the way.

Coaching the Coaches

3 of our Club Coaches, Dom Roberts, Mike Haskins and James Roberts, travelled to Burton Manor Sports Association in Stafford for a brilliant England Squash Coaching Workshop. Led by England Squash High Performance Coaches, Tania Bailey and Paul Carter, the Workshop provided our coaches with the opportunity to pick up loads of practical tips and suggestions to bring to the Club's own coaching programmes.

British Open at the Birmingham Rep

3 members, Mark, Dom and James, enjoyed some exhilarating squash action at the Birmingham Rep, as the British Open Squash Championships entered its Quarter Finals stage.

Staffs International Tournament - Trophy Handover

We at Lichfield Squash Club were the inaugural winners of the Staffordshire Squash International Tournament last year, when a team from Club de Squash Tres Cantos near Madrid visited to compete with Burntwood Desperados, Oak Park Squash Club, Tamworth Squash & Racketball Club and us.
