Lichfield Squash Club News - February 2026

As this is the first Club Newsletter of 2026, we would like to start by wishing a very belated Happy New Year to all our members – and a warm welcome to those who have recently joined us at Lichfield Squash Club.

Membership Update

We’re really pleased to see membership numbers continuing to grow steadily. It’s great to welcome so many new faces onto court, adding to the friendly and inclusive atmosphere we’re proud of at the club.

If you’re new (or even if you’ve been around a while) and have any questions about how things work – leagues, bookings, teams or coaching – please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re always happy to help you get the most out of your membership.

Coaching Opportunities

We’re continuing to build and evolve our coaching offer across all levels:

Juniors (Junior Squash Academy – JSA)

We’re currently reviewing and refreshing our Junior Squash Academy to help bring more young players into the sport and create a clearer development pathway.

Plans include:

  • Introducing dedicated beginner sessions for two age groups (primary and secondary school)
  • Retaining a core JSA session for more experienced players
  • Structuring sessions so beginners can progress naturally into the main academy

We’re also looking to strengthen links with local schools by:

  • Delivering in-school sessions (e.g. England Squash Ready Set Squash)
  • Running after-school coaching programmes at King Edward VI courts to help feed new players into the club

More details will be announced soon, but the focus is very much on growing junior participation and creating a clear pathway from beginner to regular player.

Adults – Beginners

We’re introducing a monthly beginner session on Tuesday Club Nights. This is a great way for new players to get started, learn the basics and quickly integrate into the club environment – meeting other players and gaining confidence on court.

Improvers / Advanced Players

We’re also exploring additional sessions for improver and more advanced players who want to develop their game further. More details on this coming soon.

Club Box Leagues

Our current round of box leagues runs through to mid-March – so please make sure you get your matches played.

If you’ve not entered before, we strongly encourage you to give it a go next time. It’s one of the best ways to:

  • Meet other members
  • Play competitive but friendly matches
  • Track and improve your standard

New players are always very welcome.

Staffordshire Teams

After a challenging start to the season, our team produced a strong run of results through the middle of the campaign. Finishing with a win in the final match secured us 4th place overall – a big improvement on last season.

We’ll be looking to build on this momentum, and we’re particularly excited about the introduction of a new end-of-season Cup competition , which should add a great extra dimension to the team calendar.

County Developments

There are some positive developments at county level, with renewed efforts to:

  • Introduce new competitions (including the upcoming Cup)
  • Expand the Summer League for 2026
  • Forge international links with clubs in Spain and France
  • Re-establish stronger links across clubs and with England Squash

More updates will follow as plans take shape.

Thanks again to everyone for your continued support of the club. It’s great to see the courts busy and the club moving in such a positive direction.

See you on court!
